Background:

• 1976 to 1985: Senior attorney for The Coastal Corporation, an international independent oil and gas company. Advised senior management regarding all legal aspects of oil trading and maritime (tug/barge) operations including environmental matters, Jones Act, fuel quality issues and terminal operations. Directed all litigation and arbitration including bankruptcy matters. Established Coastal’s initial London based legal department. • 1985 to 1998: Managing Attorney for Valero Energy Corporation, based in Houston supporting the refining and oil trading divisions with a major emphasis on managing arbitration and litigation issues,corporate compliance and refinery related environmental matters. Manager of Marine Sales and Transportation which included responsibility for bunker blending, sales and operations. Project Manager for a multi-disciplined team charged to locate and install a multi million-dollar supply chain management IT system. • 1998 to 2000: Consultant for Bunker Hill Associates, a Houston based boutique law firm that specialized in turnarounds, workouts and acquisitions. •2000 to 2004: General Counsel and then Vice President for Fuel and Marine Marketing LLC (FAMM) based in White Plains NY. FAMM, a major global supplier of marine fuel and marine lubes for both deep sea and inland marine and power stations was an independent subsidiary of the Chevron Corporation. As General Counsel, responsible for all legal aspects of the business operating in 13 countries including managing arbitration and ligation. As Vice President for Fuels Europe, reorganized and centralized the European fuel business and built and led team that developed and managed low sulfur fuel oil business in Rotterdam. • 2004 to 2007: General Counsel for Mercuria Group Ltd, a major privately-owned global energy trading company. As the company’s initial General Counsel, created a “Greenfield” legal department to handle both corporate and legal “operational” issues for this multicultural Company with 10 global offices. Managed all litigation and arbitration matters and set up trading companies/joint ventures in China, South Africa, Canada and the United States.• 2008 to 2011: Managing attorney for BP PLC initially based in Chicago then transferred to Singapore. Provide legal support for the physical commodity benches with special emphasis on residual oil, marine sales, middle distillates and crude along with associated sanction and anti-bribery compliance and dispute resolution. • 2011 to 2015: General Counsel for Chemoil Energy Ltd, a major global supplier of marine fuels, aviation fuel, land diesel, oil terminals and ships, based in Singapore. Responsible for both legal, corporate and compliance matters for this multicultural Company with 20 global offices.Global responsibility for all of the Company’s litigation and arbitration matters. • 2015 to 2018: General Counsel for Thome Ship Management Pte Ltd based in Singapore. Thome provides integrated ship management services to the international shipping and offshore industries. As Thome’s first in house attorney my responsibilities include establishing a legal department, managing all contract activities and associated litigation and arbitration issues. •2013 to date: Independent Maritime Arbitrator and Mediator focusing on commodity trading, charterparty and ship management disputes.
